Runway meets retail
Brisbane Fashion Festival returned to King George Square in August 2026 with Spring/Summer collections from Queensland and national designers. Its own programme describes the festival as a retail driver: collections appear on the runway as the season lands in stores.
Brisbane Fashion Month adds a second local platform later in the year, focused specifically on Brisbane and Queensland designers. Together they give the city a fashion calendar that is more consumer- and retail-facing than Sydney’s trade-led Fashion Week.

The festival marked its 21st year in 2026, so this is an established part of Brisbane’s calendar rather than a new showcase. Its role is also different from Australian Fashion Week: the emphasis is on collections reaching the public as the retail season begins.

Queensland designers have their own platforms
Brisbane Fashion Month describes itself as a platform exclusively for Brisbane and Queensland designers, while QUT runs Queensland’s longest-established fashion degree. That gives the city a visible local design pipeline alongside the national labels that appear at Brisbane Fashion Festival.

That local focus creates work around Queensland labels and graduate design as well as the national brands that visit the city. For emerging models, the runway ecosystem is therefore tied closely to the designers being developed locally.
Commercial work reaches beyond fashion
Screen Queensland Studios Brisbane explicitly hires facilities for TVCs, music videos and photoshoots as well as film and television. That production layer matters for models because Brisbane briefs are not limited to runway: commercial stills, screen work, content and e-commerce sit alongside fashion.
