Modeling in Durban

South Africa

Durban has a smaller agency market than Cape Town or Johannesburg, but a very visible route into the industry: city-backed scouting, training and runway exposure through the Durban Fashion Fair, alongside commercial and casting work.

From scouting to runway

The Durban Fashion Fair gives the city a route that is unusually easy to see. In 2026, eThekwini selected 25 aspiring models for intensive training before their runway debut; the municipality says 325 models had been trained through the wider programme over the previous 14 years.

Cynthia Gumede, selected through the 2025 Model Search, offers a recent example of what can follow: brand work, national fashion shows and an appearance at Vietnam Beauty Fashion Fest in 2026.

Fashion has a local pipeline

DFF links model development to designers and buyers, while the Hollywoodbets Durban July adds another recurring stage through its Young Designer Award and DFF Rising Stars. The result is a local fashion pipeline that connects students, emerging designers and models rather than relying only on agency boards.

Commercial work beyond agency boards

The Durban Film Office covers television, film, photo and digital media, while local casting companies such as FOSAC and Let’s Face It work across screen and stills. Station Drive adds a practical production layer, with Boss Models Durban and Studio 031 operating in the same creative precinct.
